Las Vegas Raiders vs. New Orleans Saints Series History:
The Raiders lead the all-time series against the Saints, 7-6-1. Las Vegas has won the previous two contests against the Saints. The last meeting between the two teams was in 2020 where the Raiders beat the Saints, 34-24. Las Vegas was in complete control of the game from start to finish.
Previewing the Saints Heading into Week Eight:
The Saints will be coming off a couple days of rest after suffering a 40-34 loss to the Arizona Cardinals last Thursday night. The offense was able to get off to a fast start, but too many turnovers resulted in the Cardinals building a lead that was too much to overcome.
New Orleans received some good news on this week’s injury report as defensive end Payton Turner and quarterback Jameis Winston was listed as full participants. Turner’s return could boost a defensive line that has struggled to create pressure to the quarterback in the Saints losing skid.
Winston is healthy, but Dennis Allen has already made it clear that Andy Dalton will be the starter against Las Vegas.
Even with the good news from the injury report, some key starters for the Saints still remain in question heading into this weekend’s game. Cornerback Marshon Lattimore, wide receiver Michael Thomas, slot receiver Jarvis Landry and tight end Adam Trautman were all absent from Wednesday’s practice. Cornerback Bradley Roby was placed on the injured reserve this week.
Scouting the Saints Opponent: Raiders:
The Raiders are off to a slow start to the 2022 season, but they are coming off a 38-20 win at home against the Houston Texans. Las Vegas was able to gash Houston through their running game as they pile on 164 rushing yards.
Running back Josh Jacobs had 20 carries for 143 yards and three touchdown to lead the Raiders to their second win on the season. Jacobs became the first Raiders running back to rush for 140 yards in three consecutive games. Las Vegas will look to stick to their bread and butter to try to pick up their third win on the year.
Several Raiders players were limited in Wednesday’s practice. Quarterback Derek Carr, wide receiver Hunter Renfrow and running back Josh Jacobs. Tight End Darren Waller was back a practice in a limited role on Wednesday as he has been dealing with a hamstring injury.
Four Las Vegas players missed Wednesday’s practice due to illness. Those included: defensive ends Tashawn Bower and Clelin Ferrell, safety Johnathan Abram and wide receiver Davante Adams.
Prediction for Raiders @ Saints:
Turnovers flipped the momentum for the Saints in their Thursday night loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The Saints had to abandon the running game in the second half as they had to rely on their passing attack to try and climb back into the ballgame.
Las Vegas’ defense have had success of stopping the run as they have not allowed a 100-yard rusher this season. On the other side, New Orleans’ defense will have their hands full as they will rely heavily on feeding Jacobs coming out of the backfield.
The Raiders will benefit from the return of Waller and will be able to take deep shots with Adams, especially with the absence of Lattimore and Roby in the secondary. New Orleans hasn’t been able to show consistency this season and their defense will struggle against a Raiders high-powered offense.
Prediction: Las Vegas Raiders 31, New Orleans Saints 23
