Fantasy Football Week Eight: Starts of the Week

It is about that time in the week where you need to lock in who is going to be in your fantasy football lineups going into this weekend’s slate of games in the NFL. Whether you are trying to end a losing skid or making a push for a playoff spot, it is important to put in the players that will get you the maximum number of points. Here are the players you should start heading into week eight:

Quarterback Daniel Jones, New York Giants

Daniel Jones and the New York Giants have gotten off to a fast start to the 2022 season as they currently sit at 6-1 on the year. Jones is coming off a solid showing in week seven against the Jacksonville Jaguars where he posted 202 passing yards, 107 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

The 25-year old quarterback has done enough to put him as the QB9 overall on the season. He finished as the QB2 for his performance against the Jaguars as he posted 28 fantasy points.

Jones brings the upside with his capabilities to take off and run. He gets a favorable matchup this week as the Giants will take on the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks defense currently sits in the top ten in fantasy points allowed to the quarterback position. This is a safe option for Jones going up against a Seattle defense that has been struggling this season.

Running Back Raheem Mostert, Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins backfield coming into the season was filled with talent, but had some question marks on who would be the featured back. Raheem Mostert has been the guy that has stepped up for Miami. He was able to pile on 100 yards and a touchdown in week seven against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Mostert will have another chance to have a big day on the ground as the Dolphins will take on the Detroit Lions on Sunday afternoon. The Lions defense currently ranks third in the NFL for points allowed to the running back position, 29.17 fantasy points per game.

The matchup for Mostert brings upside against a Lions defense that has had their issues of stopping the run. Be confident of starting Mostert as he has the ability to break off a big run at any moment.

Wide Receiver Gabe Davis, Buffalo Bills

Gabe Davis’ fantasy season has come with some breakout games, but also weeks were it hasn’t been so great. He has become one of Josh Allen’s favorite targets, alongside Stefon Diggs. Davis and the Bills are coming off of the bye week.

The Bills will face off against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night. The Packers defense has a talented secondary, but they just haven’t been able to put it together this season. Green Bay have allowed 16.3 yards per attempt and have given up big plays through the air.

Davis has a high ceiling going into the matchup against Green Bay. He currently ranks third in the NFL in air yards per game (16.4). The 23-year old wide receiver has become Allen’s favorite deep-threat target and will be able to test the Packers secondary.

Tight End Irv Smith, Minnesota Vikings

Irv Smith and the Minnesota Vikings will look to continue their hot start to the season when they host the Arizona Cardinals. Smith hasn’t shown flashy numbers at the tight end position, but he has remained consistent in fantasy by posting eight fantasy points in two straight matchups.

The matchup that Smith is facing this week against the Cardinals defense is what makes him a streaming option in week eight. In the last game Arizona played in, Saints tight end Juwan Johnson was able to find the endzone twice against an Arizona defense that has struggled against tight ends.

Arizona’s defense is allowing the second-most fantasy points per game to the tight end position, 20.5. The struggles don’t stop there as they also allow the most touchdowns (six) to tight ends. The matchup is very favorable for Smith and you should take advantage of a defense that is weak against the position.
