Detroit Red Wings rookies Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond have rejuvenated this Original Six team and are giving fans hope again.

These rookies are the reason why the Red Wings have started the season better than anyone expected. The Red Wings are currently 4th in the Atlantic Division in the NHL with a record of four wins four losses and two overtime losses.

It is not the best record but it improved from the first 10 games last season. In 2020 the Red wings started their season with only two wins after 10 games.

The Red Wings were lacking goal scoring and a true number one defensemen and it seems like they have found them.

Seider, 20, was recently named the NHL’s rookie of the month in October and has eighth assist in 10 games so far this season.

Raymond joined Gordie Howe and Steve Yzerman as the only players in Red Wings history to score 4 points in a game at the age of 19-years-old or younger.

Raymond’s speed and unbelievably quick shot with Seider shutting down and holding his own against the top players in the league is something Red Wings fans have been waiting for.

Not only are these young men talented from an individual standpoint but they also complement the team as a whole. Raymond plays alongside Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin and leading scorer Tyler Bertuzzi.

This line is lethal in the offensive zone together with Raymond and Bertuzzi having nine points each and Larkin having eight points.

Seider in addition to being solid defensively for the Red Wings is also the quarterback of the power play with four of his eight assists coming on the power play this season.

This is the foundation that fans hoped Steve Yzerman would lay as general manager of the Red Wings like he did for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Yzerman made other key off season moves that have helped the Red Wings improve from last season.

One in particular that stands out is bringing in goaltender and Calder trophy finalist for rookie of the year Alex Nedeljkovic who can split starts with goaltender Thomas Greiss.

Improved goaltending and these two young players contributing offensively and defensively makes the Red Wings future very bright.
