The score was 17-3 and formerly ranked #4 PennState was starting to command the game, then, the unexpected happened. Starting QB Sean Clifford was injured on a third-down pass play early in the 2nd quarter. He went to the medical tent, then to the locker room. It was said that he was holding his back or rib area. Fans held their breath that their Senior QB1 would make his return to the playing field. Sadly, he returned, without his pads and game day jersey- Sean Clifford’s day was done. He finished with 146 passing yards, and rushed for team-high 33 yards, and a touchdown. Clifford started his 26th career game this past Sunday.

The time has come for young sophomore QB Ta’Quan Roberson to check in the game and carry the team to a huge victory for the CFB rankings- can it be done? Sadly, this was not the case. Roberson struggled to get much going as he went 7 of 20 for 36 yards, and an interception. There were substantial communication issues throughout the game as PSU finished with an outrageous 8 false start penalties. The offense never really could get into sync as the Nittany Lions couldn't even total 100 yards in the second half.

With a bye week ahead for the team, and Homecoming game against Illinois after that, it’s unclear that Sean Clifford will be ready to return on October 23rd. The Lions will have to prepare their former redshirt sophomore for battle. Let's hope that he will bounce back, and get his first victory as a starter.

With the loss, Penn state has dropped from #4 to #7 at 5-1 and 2-1 in conference play. Formerly #3 Iowa now moves up to #2 behind Georgia.
