Game one of the 2021 preseason has officially concluded for the Philadelphia Flyers. They dropped this one 3-2 in overtime. This resulted in the sad, painful memories of seasons past, but this was different. There was an electric vibe in the Wells Fargo Center that was never quite felt before or in a very long time. What did we take away from game one- here we go.

Goalies

Let’s start in the net with Carter Hart and Samuel Ersson. Carter Hart went 17-18 with a .944 save percentage in the first 40 minutes of play. The difference with Hart was day and night. Hart was tracking the puck well. Being a netminder is way more mental than physical and we saw this first-hand last season. Carter looked more focused rather than jumpy like last year. Moving forward Carter will be successful this season. Although Ersson might not see much NHL time, he will still be quite a success wherever he plays this season. Ersson went 9-11 and a .818 save percentage in the last 20 minutes plus 22 seconds of overtime. Although Ersson is not quite NHL ready, the future is bright with the Flyers goaltending.

Oskar Lindblom

Lindblom was probably the biggest storyline going into this season. After battling a type of bone cancer and playing an abbreviated season in both 2019-2020 and 2020-2021. He looks like the Oskar before the diagnosis. He looked fast and furious. In 16:10 of ice time, Lindblom had 2 shots, 2 hits, and 1 block. Oskar will be one to watch this season.

Egor Zamula

Now another player to keep an eye on is Egor Zamula. Egor is a 21-year-old prospect from Russia. He stands at 6 foot 3 and 177 pounds. He played in 2 NHL games in the 2020-2021 season. He had a +/- rating of +1in those two games. In the game against the Islanders, Zamula had 1 goal, +/-minus rating of +1, 1 shot, 1 block, and 1 GVA In 16:48 of total ice time. Although Zamula will most likely be spending most of his time in the AHL with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, he will be making his mark in the NHL soon enough. These are just some of the adjustments that are making the Flyers fun to watch again. They have a good mix of older veterans and young, scrappy, talented players who hope to make their NHL debut sooner rather than later.
