Here are some highlights from the intense Metropolitan Division matchup:
Penguins Dominate with Power-Play Precision
Pittsburgh capitalized on special teams, scoring three power-play goals to fuel their offensive outburst. Justin Brazeau opened the scoring with a power-play tally late in the first period, followed quickly by Bryan Rust on the man advantage to make it 2-0 after one.
The Penguins added two more in the second, including Egor Chinakhov's goal that chased Flyers starter Samuel Ersson (3 goals on 14 shots) early in the frame. Noel Acciari also found the net to build a 4-1 lead by intermission.
In the third, Penguins captain Sidney Crosby notched a power-play goal (his milestone marker) and an assist, becoming the eighth player in NHL history with at least 19 50-point seasons. Connor Dewar rounded out the scoring for Pittsburgh.
Stuart Skinner earned the win in net, stopping 30 of 33 shots for his fourth victory in five starts.
Flyers Show Fight Despite the Loss
Philadelphia battled back with three goals, though they came too late to mount a serious comeback. Rodrigo Abols scored his third of the season (he's been hot lately, tying for second on the team with eight points since Dec. 20). Defenseman Nick Seeler added his second goal of the year in the third period.
Young star Matvei Michkov capped the scoring for the Flyers with his 10th goal of the season late in the third, finishing a feed from Denver Barkey (who had two assists in the game, his second multi-assist performance this year). Michkov now has six points (3G, 3A) in seven career games against Pittsburgh.
Backup Aleksei Kolosov (recalled earlier that day due to an injury to Dan Vladar) came in relief and made 13 saves on 16 shots.
Additional contributors for the Flyers included assists from Cam York (his 16th of the season, leading team defensemen), Noah Juulsen, Sean Couturier, and Carl Grundstrom.
Key Takeaways and Season Series Update
This was the third of four meetings between the teams this season, with Pittsburgh now leading the series 2-1. The Penguins improved to points in 12 of their last 14 games against the Flyers and have been dominant at home in the rivalry, earning points in 11 straight against Philadelphia dating back to March 2021.
The Penguins (now with momentum after halting their skid) host Columbus next, while the struggling Flyers (who have allowed at least four goals in eight of their last nine losses) return home to face the New York Rangers on Saturday.

Despite the lopsided result, the Flyers showed resilience with late scoring and strong individual efforts from emerging talents like Michkov and Barkey. The Metropolitan Division rivalry remains as heated as ever.
