Owen Flores Shines In 6–2 Bounce-Back Win Against Manitoba Moose

BMO Center — January 13, 2026

The Rockford IceHogs delivered a statement performance Tuesday night, cruising to a 6–2 victory over the Manitoba Moose and snapping a frustrating six-game skid in the process, and earning their first regulation win against Manitoba this season.

Behind balanced scoring, a standout effort in net, and a relentless forecheck, Rockford reminded the AHL Central Division that it still has plenty of bite.

After falling behind early on a Mason Shaw tally for Manitoba, the IceHogs flipped the script emphatically. Sam Rinzel, Harrison Israels, and several of Rockford’s veteran contributors lit the lamp, combining for a deep offensive showing that energized the home crowd at the BMO Center.

Scoring Summary & Milestone Goals

  • Manitoba Moose: Mason Shaw opened the scoring with his ninth of the season off a nice feed from Walker Duehr.

  • IceHogs: Sam Rinzel tied it late in the first on the power play — his first career AHL goal, bringing Rockford even heading into the break.

  • Harrison Israels followed with his first goal as an IceHog, a dynamic rush that gave Rockford its first lead.

  • Jackson Cates extended the lead with a rebound finish, his second point in the opening stanza.

  • Kevin Lombardi struck early in the second on a power play chance, pushing the lead to 4–1.

  • In the third, Rem Pitlick wasted no time making it 5–1 just 68 seconds in.

  • Samuel Fagemo answered for the Moose with a power-play goal, keeping them alive briefly at 5–2.

  • Martin Misiak sealed the night for Rockford with a crisp two-on-one finish, capping the scoring at 6–2.

Goaltender Owen Flores was at the heart of the IceHogs’ resurgence. Facing a Moose squad averaging over 30 shots per game this season, Flores stopped 28 shots overall and posted his first AHL win, a major confidence boost for the young netminder. The Chicago native showed calmness under pressure — especially early after giving up the opening goal — and helped stem Manitoba’s momentum throughout the middle frame by turning aside several high-danger opportunities. Flores’s agility on cross-crease plays and his rebound control were marked improvements from recent outings, offering Rockford a reliable backbone in this tilt.

Game Flow & Impact Stats

Rockford controlled much of the game’s pace, outshooting Manitoba 13–7 in the first period and expanding that edge into the latter stages. The IceHogs scored on both ends of special teams and showed better puck possession, forechecking pressure, and execution in the offensive zone than in recent weeks. The Ice Hogs’ team skating was on full display, putting the Moose in multiple binds and creating six power plays in the game. With numerous contributors finding the scoresheet, Rockford’s depth attack was on full display.

Current Record & Standings

With the win, the IceHogs improved to 14–19–2–2 (32 PTS) on the season. While still below .500 in the Central Division standings and only two points out of a playoff spot, Tuesday’s result ended a slump that saw Rockford struggle to find consistent offense and goaltending in recent games.

Looking Ahead — Upcoming Matchups

Rockford will now shift focus to a quick turnaround as they host the powerhouse Grand Rapids Griffins on Friday, Jan. 16 (7 p.m. CST), followed by a showdown with the Chicago Wolves on Saturday, Jan. 17 (8 p.m.). The Griffins have been one of the AHL’s hottest teams this season at 29-2-2, making Friday a litmus test for the IceHogs’ ability to carry momentum out of this win.

If Rockford can maintain its scoring balance and get another strong performance from Flores, the club could string together valuable points down the stretch of the Central Division battle.
