The Flyers do battle with the NY Islanders in a “home and home” stand. Two games where the Flyers desperately needed to gain some ground in the Metropolitan division and defeat a team that has a worse record then them. Martin Jones gets the gate for Game 1, and Carter Hart finishes it off in Game 2, a game that was back at the Wells Fargo Center. Sadly, the Flyers dropped both games, the second coming in a long shootout battle. Lots to take away from this division matchup- let's get into it with our key takeaways from the series.

Travis Konecny Lights the Lamp in Both Games

Another lackluster season for Travis Konecny, as he started the year red hot, playing alongside Claude Giroux and currently injured Sean Couturier. The hope was back that the old “TK” had returned and was finally going to start scoring goals. Was this the resurgence of Travis Konecny? Welp, I think not. With that being said, he did find his way to net two goals in the “home and home” stand. Game 1 coming off a typical dump in and redirecting off of an Islanders player- gotta go in somehow. Game 2, TK lights the lamp on a giveaway behind the net from the Isles goaltender. This goal was assisted by Scott Laughton (8) and Oskar Lindblom (7). Konecny has 7 goals and 15 assists in 37 games. More offense is needed from one of the Flyers key players.

Cam York Continues to Impress

The young defenseman and hope for the future, Cam York, has seen a lot of playing time, and it continues to show why. Logging 20:56 in Game 1 of this series and then a drastic drop off to 12:55 minutes played, where he logged an assist in this game. Not only has he played some time on ice, but he is put in key situations. Seeing him on the Powerplay’s first line, and the start to overtime games. The coaching staff continues to trust their young player in Cam York. I don't see him going down to the minors anytime soon, or maybe even ever again. His ability to position himself to help the team win, his puck moving ability is sensational, and his vision is similar to a veteran. Cam York is for real! 0 Goals, 1 assist, -2 +/-, TOI: 16:55 in the “home and home.”

Time to Promote the Mac

The time has come, Zack MacEwen needs to get more playing time. His physical presence throughout the year and in this series shows that. The Flyers need a player who can capitalize on the forecheck, send in the puck deep, and let the “Mac” attack! Game 2, we saw MacEwen drop the gloves against Zdeno Chara, a man who not many go toe-to-toe with. His grittiness and ability to give the team a boost is what they need on the scoring lines. What more do you have to lose? He deserves it. A great series for the Flyers tough guy.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
