The Flyers ended their first Canadian road trip 2 wins and one loss. They contained Conor McDavid almost flawlessly, leading to a 5-3 win, with Claude Giroux, Nate Thompson, Sean Couturier netting 1 each and Cam Atkinson scoring to goals. The defense kept the Oilers from dominating offensively but Starter Hart was the player of the game in my eyes. Having done a stellar job between the pipes.

Moving on to the Vancouver game, which alot of people categorized as a revenge match from the home opener 5-4 loss in a shootout. They came out swinging….literally! Luke Schenn and Zack MacEwen drop the gloves, both ended up bloodied in the sin bin. Thus, the result of that game being a 2-1 flyers victory. That being said, Martin Jones looked great, but you could see the fatigue from putting forth some much effort in the previous game against the Oilers.

This would directly effect the next game against the Flames.

Two back to back wins resulted in a shutout win for the Calgary Flames. Not making excuses for the flyguys but you could tell they were absolutely gassed going into this but if you ask me, this road trip was a success. They made this happen without Ryan Ellis, who now has gone from a day to day lower body injury, to a week by week lower body injury. Bench boss Alain Vigneault stated, in a post practice interview this afternoon, there’s a good chance Ellis doesn’t travel with the team in the next up coming games. Also saying, “It ended up being more serious than we had expected” so spotlights on that surprising development.

The Flyers have proven that they can be successful without their viking defenseman but what does the future hold for Ryan Ellis and the once tight defensive core? They tee off to play the Coyotes tomorrow night so, only time will tell. Nick Seeler is making a name for himself but how long does he have up in the bigs?
