Burgy Story

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ future seems to be the hottest topic in the NFL offseason. There are a handful of teams that have already been in contact with the Packers about the possibility of acquiring Rodgers for next season.

Last year Matthew Stafford was acquired by the Los Angeles Rams from the Detroit Lions for two 1st round draft picks, a 3rd round draft pick and quarterback Jared Goff. This could be troublesome for teams looking to acquire Rodgers’ services because Rodgers will cost the same if not more than Stafford in any trade.

Two 1st round picks and additional draft capital, with players is a large deal for Rodgers who is a 38-year-old quarterback. Which means it would have to be a team like the Rams or Buccaneers that are just a quarterback away from competing for another Super Bowl.

The Indianapolis Colts have already made it clear they are looking to move on from current quarterback Carson wentz. This could be the time for the Colts to go all in and trade for Rodgers.

The Colts have a championship caliber defense led by one of the best linebackers in the NFL Darius Leonard, defensive lineman Deforest Buckner, and defensive back Xavier Rhodes. Along with their defense they have a premier offensive line and a top five running back Jonathan Taylor.

The Colts have all the ingredients needed for a Super Bowl run. They just need a quarterback like Rodgers to get there.

A couple of other teams that could possibly land Rodgers could be the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Denver Broncos. The Steelers have a Hall Of Fame head coach Mike Tomlin, a great young running back in Najee Harris and a deep receiving core and that defense that has linebacker T.J. Watt who is the current Defensive Player of the Year.

The Broncos made former Packer offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett their new head coach this off-season. Many believe this move was made by the Broncos to put themselves in a better position to get Rodgers. Denver  has the assets to get a deal done and now has a head coach who Rodgers has familiarity and comfortability with.

Trade talks between the Broncos and Packers would likely start with Broncos 1st round draft choice in 2021 cornerback Patrick Surtain II. Surtain was selected 9th overall in 2021.

Honorable mentions to land Rodgers would be the San Francisco 49ers and the Miami Dolphins.

It is well documented that Rodgers’ favorite team growing up was the 49ers. They also have been close to winning the Lombardi trophy in recent years.

Many people believe the reason they lost in the super bowl and the NFC championship game was because of underwhelming quarterback play from Jimmy Garoppolo. Rodgers could be the 49ers potential solution.

The Dolphins have actively been trying to upgrade from current quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. The Dolphins have made attempts to trade for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson but nothing has come of.

The Dolphins have a plethora of 1st round picks and could be heavily in the mix to trade for Rodgers because of it.
