The Universal DH is Here at Last! By: Justin Dorazio
As of just a few minutes ago the MLB and MLBPA agreed on a Universal DH and Draft Lottery similar to the NBA’s Draft lottery system!
These are two extraordinarily exciting changes coming to baseball, a draft lottery allows the possibility of trading draft picks. That could add huge appeal to the MLB draft. If the MLB could market their draft the same way that the NBA and NFL market their drafts, then the MLB would be taking their first true steps into the new age. We don’t know much about how this draft lottery will operate but we will learn more in the near future.
The universal DH is something that we should have had years ago but it’s never too late! This new rule will take pitchers out of all NL batting lineups, instead, all teams will add in an extra hitter who does not take the field when on defense, he is the “Designated Hitter”. This is huge news as the AL has used the DH rule since 1973 and both the AL and NL adopted the rule during the covid shortened 2020 season.
