We’ve come upon the half-way mark of December and what a wild month it has been so far! Oh boy, where do I even start? In a nutshell, The Philadelphia Flyers have been a little disappointing as of late. The Fly Guys are looking A LOT better now (winning their last three games in a row) but they are 3-4 for the month. You’ll have to read my next article to dive into the hot streak but for now, we’ll discuss the crazy back end of the losing streak.

December 1st brought us the seventh straight loss against the red-hot New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. They fell 1-4, but as a fanbase, we saw Morgan Frost net his first of the year. On the other hand, Frost was put in the penalty box twice which were the only two penalties the Flyers took, and the Rangers scored one of those times.

With four days of rest on them, the Flyers were back home for the first game of a back-to-back, this one against the Tampa Bay Lightning. And oh, my goodness, the Bolts absolutely destroyed the Flyers 7-1, handing the boys their eighth straight loss. We got to witness Brian “Moose” Elliot for the first time from the other side and Carter Hart got the start for the Flyers. Hart was replaced by Martin Jones after letting in five goals through about halfway into the second period. Thankfully, Cam Atkinson put a stop to the shutout bid in the third period, scoring a goal on the power play.

Monday December 6th, after losing eight in a row, brought us news that head coach Alain Vigneault and assistant coach Michel Therrien were relieved of their duties. Interim head coach Mike Yeo would man the helm for the game that night against the Colorado Avalanche. Despite producing offense and scoring five goals, for the first time since October 27th, The Flyers fell 5-7. Nine straight losses felt awful, however there was a bit of good news that comes with this loss. The players who are supposed to produce are scoring And Yeo has no issue mixing up the lines. For example, he put Oskar Lindblom on the first line with Sean Couturier and Travis Konecny. And guess what? Lindblom netted his first of the year.

The Flyers claim defensemen Kevin Connauton off waivers from the Florida Panthers the next day and then on Wednesday, Philly took to the turnpike and played the Devils in New Jersey. The battle against the two struggling teams was won by the Devils, who were on a four-game skid of their own. The Flyers were shut out for the fourth time this season and were handed their tenth dump in a row. 0-3.

Could the Philadelphia Flyers continue losing? Or will they finally bounce back? Well, if you’re up to date then you already have the answer, but I’ll end this here. Continue to the next one to find out!
