The Draft and the prospects by: Jesse Bell

The 2024 NHL Draft is in the books and there are talks in the fanbase of negligence with the high ups not making more moves for the "Right Picks" in the 1st round. To be honest, these talks are just a clear sign of ignorance in the fanbase, which is nothing new.

Danny Briere went with Jett Luchankho 13th overall in the 1st round, 51st overall in the 2nd round they chose Center Jack Berglund from Sweden's u20 league, with the 59th pick in the 2nd round they nabbed from the Rimouski Oceanic of the QMJHL, Defenseman Spencer Gill. 4th Round the Flyers chose center Heikki Ruohonen with the 107th overall pick from Finnish U20 Hockey League. With the 148th pick the Flyers chose right winger, Noah Powell from Dubuque the Fighting Saints of the USHL. I've gone into a bit of his past in a tweet but will also do so in this article. With their 173rd overall pick, Flyers chose right winger, Iilya Pautov from Krasnaya Armiya Moskva in the MHL![Russian Juniors] Finally, their last selection in the 2024 Nhl Entry Draft, the Flyers chose Defenseman, Austin Moline in the 7th round 205th overall from Shattuck Saint Mary's U-18 Prep team in the USHS League.

It's been a bit drawn out but bear with me, the points are coming.

There are a few players throughout this draft that Danny B chose for solid reasons but I think alot of negative judgement from the Philadelphia fanbase is coming from ignorance of these players. I'll be honest, I fell into this category as well when the selections started. When Jett was chosen, the crew at The Gridiron Pub in Aston, PA was silent, just having not done enough research prior to the draft. My eyes were on three players and three players alone. [Dickenson, Igilna and Yakemchuk] Couple weeks later, after doing my research and getting the Development camp interviews daily from the franchise, I was finally able to sit back and look up some stats and to my surprise, there are some solid players chosen here, including the 1st overall pick in Jett Luchanko.

Luchanko is a 17 year old right handed center from Onatario, BC, weighing in at 185 lbs and at a height of 5'11. Last season he logged in 20 goals, 54 assists and 74 points in 68 games played for the OHL'S Guelph Storm. Now, don't get me wrong, I know he's young and most likely not NHL ready by a long shot but the pick isn't nearly as bad as the fans think. I've seen the videos of Dev Camp practice, drills and just overall film on the kid and he's doing nothing but impressing everyone. From his speed down to just his professionalism, Jett's the real deal at 17.

We'll jump to Noah Powell at 148th in the 4th round. Now, this is a solid example of not a 1st round pick but staggaring stats. He had a slow start to this last season with the USHL's (United States Hockey Leauge) Dubuque Fighting Saints, the native of Northbrook, IL logged in 74 points in 61 regular season games. Not to mention, 43 goals/31 assists/plus-minus of 18, I personally think Noah went late and am not on board calling him a dark horse pick, in my opinion. The 6'1, 210lbs 19 year old right handed forward has committed to his upcoming season with Ohio State University so like i said, keep an eye on this kid and expect good things from him this season and years to come.

The draft has come and gone, development camp is underway and the 2024-25 season is closer than we think. Your opinion is your own just like mine are my own, my predictions with this season are the Flyers have a better season than last year, not by much but better! The goalie situation is in an interesting position with Sam Ersson and Ivan Fedotov looking to be the Flyers tandem but don't forget about Kolosov in Lehigh, being struck with a bit of homesickness after his playoff run with the Phantoms. There are definitely some concearns that need to be addressed, as usually, let's wait and see. Michkov has taken the media and fanbase by storm but like Danny and Torts said "He'll be treated like everyone else and will have to work. Nothing will be handed to him!" Take that anyway you'd like but me personally, it's been said he's not playing in the AHL so, only time will tell!
