The Philadelphia Flyers 2021/22 season starts this Friday at 7pm Eastern and with the recent additions to the roster, many are predicting a very promising season. Injuries have hit earlier than expected with Kevin Hayes, Wade Allison and Sam Morin being out 6-8 weeks. With Wade Allison plagued with the infamous “Out Indefinitely” many are worried about this season.

I believe this season will show a different kind of Flyers team people have been waiting for. With the addition of Ryan Ellis, Cam Atkinson, Rasmus Ristolainen, Derick Brassard, Keith Yandle, Martin Jones and bringing back “The Alaskan Assassin” Nate Thompson, there is no excuse for them to head in a more successful direction. The Veteran Depth made with these pick ups bolster the Flyguys defensive pairings, establish a shoot firsts mentality in Cam Atkinson and much needed grit (2 things the team has lacked in well over 3 seasons) the Boys of Broad Street look good……..on paper.

The defensive pairings looked flawless in pre-season and so did Carter Hart. There are some concerns with shots on goal and goals themselves, having sometimes a whopping 30 shots on goal with 2 goals scored. Cam Atkinson and Joel Farabee both netting 2 goals each in later pre-season games are expected to lead the team in scoring this year. Hopefully, that ends up being the case this year. The grit of Risto looked great in pre-season but it looks like the league has thrown a wrench in that operation as well. The league has implemented cross checking be looked at more closely due to an all star player being injured by cross-check in the playoffs. This also means rough play in front of the net is being examined more closely, which is Risto’s bread and butter. In the end, I believe this year will be better than last year, kinda hard not to be, these issues are minor compared to last year’s disaster piece.
