Phillies Win North of the Border
Philadelphia opened a six-game road trip, and after being swept at home, the team got some much-needed help, as Bryce Harper returned to the lineup. Harper had missed four games after being hit in the elbow.
The team responded, as the Phillies scored six runs in the first inning, and cruised to an 8-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays at Skydome, in game one of the series.
Philadelphia got it rolling, as Bryson Stott led off with a walk. Then, shortstop Trea Turner launched a 1-2 fastball from Toronto’s starter, Bowden Francis, over the right-center field wall. Turner’s 6th home run of the year made it 2-0.
Then, Harper made it 3-0, as he sat on a splitter, and lined it over the right center field wall for his 9th of the year. Then, following a single by Alec Bohm, and Nick Castellanos being hit by a pitch, left fielder Max Kepler singled to center field, that scored Bohm, and making the score, 4-0.
J.T. Realmuto hit a single to load the bases, then with two outs, it was Stott with a two-run single to center that made it 6-0 after the first inning.
Philadelphia made it 7-0, in the top of the second inning, as after Harper walked, and Bohm hit a ground single, Castellanos hit a fly out to right, and with Harper tagging up to third, an errant throw by Toronto’s right fielder, Addison Barger, scored Bryce from third.
The Phillies capped off the scoring, as in the top of the 8th inning, as Turner hit his second home run of the night, as he blasted a full count splitter into the Blue Jays bullpen.
Phillies starter, Cristopher Sanchez, won his fifth game of the season, as he went six innings, and allowed only four hits, one run and struck out four..
