Phillies Swept by the Mets
The New York Mets scored two runs in the bottom of the 10th, and swept out the Phillies with a 4-3 win at Citi Field.
The Mets scored two runs in the second inning, as Mark Vientos singled to right with one out. Then, with two outs, second baseman Brett Baty, sat on a cutter, and launched into the second deck. Baty’s first of the year, which went 425 feet, made it 2-0 New York.
Philadelphia tied the game, 2-2, as Johan Rojas hit a sharp single to center, which scored Edmundo Sosa, then Trea Turner hit a single to right field, that scored Weston Wilson, who was making his debut today for the Phillies.
In the top of the 10th inning, the Phillies took the lead, as after Bryce Harper started on second base, he stole third base with one out, then Nick Castellanos on the next pitch, hit a hard grounder past Vientos that scored Harper, and made the score, 3-2.
However, in the bottom of the 10th, and with new reliever, Jordan Romano, to try and close it out, Juan Soto moved Francisco Lindor to third on a ground out, then Pete Alonso, basically with one hand, doubled a ball to right center that scored Lindor, and made it 3-3. Then, Starling Marte hit a broken bat single to center, over the glove of Bryson Stott, that scored Alonso, and gave the Mets the win, and now lead the division by 5 games.
Mets starter, David Peterson, did get hit in the 5 1/3 innings he pitched, as he allowed eight hits, and two earned runs, but he wound up with a no-decision.
Zack Wheeler was dominating on Wednesday, despite giving up the early home run, as he allowed five hits, while striking out nine batters, including six of those in the final ten batters he faced.

The Phillies had a chance to take the lead in the top of the eighth, as Max Kepler hit a single to right field, but Juan Soto made a perfect throw to get Castellanos out at the plate.

Bohm, extended his hitting streak to 10 games, with his single in the second inning. Bohm’s average went up to .230 with his 3 hits today.
Philadelphia was 5-12 with runners in scoring position, but left 12 runners on base. Meanwhile, the Mets were 2-9 with runners in scoring position, and left 10 runners on base.
Up next for Phillies
After an off day on Thursday, Philadelphia will be in the windy city, to face the Chicago Cubs in a weekend series. Taijuan Walker (1-1, 2.29 ERA) will be on the mound on Friday afternoon, and they will face a starter for Chicago, that will be determined later on.
