Phillies Sweep Series with Toronto

The Phillies got another solid start from Zack Wheeler, and the team pounded out 18 hits on Sunday, as they swept the Toronto Blue Jays, by a 11-4 score at Citizens Bank Park.

Philadelphia drew first blood in the bottom of the first inning, as on the first pitch thrown by Blue Jays starter, Jose Berrios, Trea Turner hit a leadoff double. Then, on the next pitch, it was Kyle Schwarber hitting a bloop single to center field, that gave the Phillies a 1-0 lead.

They extended the lead to 2-0, in the bottom of the third inning. Otto Kemp got a leadoff single, then stole second base. After Schwarber was intentionally walked, Alec Bohm laced a single to right field that scored Kemp.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Max Kepler lead off with a single, then J.T. Realmuto hit a double down the right-field line. Then with one-out, it was Kemp hitting a ground single, the second of his four hits, to left that scored both runners, and making it 4-0.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, and with the Blue Jays cutting the deficit to 4-2, Schwarber got a one-out single, then Bohm took a first pitch sinker, and absolutely crushed it over the left field wall. Bohm’s 7th home run of the year, and his 3rd RBI of the day, made the score, 6-2. In the month of June, Bohm is now batting .319.

The Phillies put the game in ice, in the bottom of the 6th, as after Kemp singled, and with two outs both Schwarber and Bohm walked. Nick Castellanos, then hit a slider, and it just carried over the wall in left center. Castellanos  9th career grand slam, made it 10-2.

As for Wheeler, another fine outing for him. Wheeler went 6 innings (94 pitches-61 strikes), and allowed only four hits, on earned run and struck out nine Blue Jays without walking a batter.

Philadelphia ended the homestand with a 5-1 record.

Up next for Phillies

The Phillies will now hit the road for four-games, as they will face their division foes, the Miami Marlins. On Monday, it will be Mick Abel taking the mound, and he will face Sandy Alcantara with first pitch set for 6:40 p.m.
