Phillies-Nats Postgame Phils Go 2-0
Philadelphia mashed out 14 hits, and hit three home runs, and Jesus Luzardo got his first win for his new club, as the Phillies defeated the Washington Nationals, 11-6 at Nationals Park.
The Nationals scored first in the bottom of the second inning, as catcher Keibert Ruiz, took achangeup from Luzardo, and crushed it over the Washington bullpen, and giving them a 2-0 lead.After that bat, Ruiz was 6-13 lifetime against Luzardo. The 414 foot blast was Ruiz’s second home run of the year.
In the top of the 4th, Max Kepler got on with a one-out walk, then with two outs, Bryson Stott saw a curve ball that got in his wheel house, and golfed it down the right field line, and just cleared the fence. His 1st home run tied the game at 2-2.
Philadelphia broke the bats out in the sixth inning, as new reliever Colin Poche, gave up back-to-back walks to Nick Castellanos and Stott with one out. Then, Brandon Marsh ripped a single to right to load the bases, and after the Nationals pulled Poche for Lucas Sims, shortstop Edmundo Sosa, who was starting today after Trea Turner was pulled from the lineup, due to back spasms, took a bases loaded walk to make it 3-2. Then, Sims threw a wild pitch, scoring Stott, and making it 4-2. The inning wrapped with Kyle Schwarber taking a sweeper down the middle, and hit the ball over his right center field wall. His 2nd home run of the year, made the score, 7-2.
Washington got a run back in the bottom half of the inning, courtesy of a home run by Amed Rosario, which cut the lead to 7-3.
But, in the top of the seventh inning, added insurance, as after both Castellanos and Stott walked, it was Brandon Marsh, who drove the first pitch deep into the Nationals bullpen for a 3-run homer, and making the score 10-3. Marsh had a huge day going 3-5 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI.
In fact, the bottom three of the lineup (Stott, Marsh, Sosa) went 7-12 with 6 runs scored and 6 rbis.
Luzardo, who was making his debut after being acquired from the Miami Marlins, had a fine outing in the win. He went five innings, allowing five hits and two runs, and struck out 11 batters.
Philadelphia’s next game will be on Sundayafternoon, as Aaron Nola will make his first start of the season. He will face Washington’s Mitchell Parker at 1:35 p.m.
