Phillies Make a Statement in Milwaukee

The Phillies came back from four runs down on two separate occasions, and defeated the Milwaukee Brewers, 10-8, in game one of a crucial series in Milwaukee.

The Brewers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings, thanks to home runs by Brice Turang, who led off the bottom of the first with his 17th of the season. Also, going yard was Caleb Durbin, who hit his 10th home run in the second.

Bryce Harper, cut the deficit to 4-1, in the fourth inning. Harper looked at a first pitch 101 mph fastball from Brewers starter, Jacob Misiorowski, and hit it over the center field wall. The homer was Harper’s 23rd of the year.

After Milwaukee scored in the bottom half of the inning, and making it 5-1, the Phillies counterpunched in the top of the 5th. Max Kepler led off the inning with a walk, then after Edmundo Sosa singled, and Bryson Stott grounded out, Trea Turner continued his hot pace that happened all August, as he jumped on the first pitch, and hit it down the right field line for a two-run triple, and cut the Phillies deficit to 5-3.

In the top of the 6th inning, J.T. Realmuto led off by being plunked by new reliever, Nick Mears. Then, after Brandon Marsh singled, center fielder, Harrison Bader, doubled to left field over Jackson Chourio that scored Realmuto, and cut the lead to 5-4. Kepler, then tied the game at 5-5, as he hit a sacrifice fly to center. Philadelphia then took the lead, 6-5, as Sosa hit a sacrifice fly that scored Bader.

The Brewers tied the game at 6-6, as Bryson Stott made only his 3rd error of the year, although it came at a bad time.

In the top of the 8th inning, Marsh, who had four hits in the game, led off with a single. Then, it was Bader who’s double to left field scored Marsh, and gave the Phillies a 7-6 lead. The team expanded the lead to 8-6, courtesy of a double to right by Stott.

After Milwaukee, once again tied the game at 8-8 in the bottom of the eighth, Philadelphia in the ninth, once again, counterpunched the Brewers, as Kyle Schwarber and Realmuto both walked with one out. Realmuto’s walk, which was a check swing, led to the ejection of Milwaukee’s manager, Pat Murphy. Then, Marsh stepped up with a ground single to right, that made it 9-8. Bader, got his third of the day, as he hit a bloop single to right that scored Realmuto, and made it 10-8.

Then, it was Jhoan Duran time, as he pitched a 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth, and gave the Phillies the victory.
