Eagles’ wings clipped, but they will fly again

All good things must come to an end, but unfortunately, we did not come down on the winning side in this one. Unfortunately, that makes the city of Philadelphia 0-3 on the big games this year. However, this one hurts a little more because of the amazing season put together by Jalen Hurts and crew. To go so far and fall short in the big game is super disheartening, but I don’t think this is the last you will see of this team.
Even though this team fell short it’s hard not to be optimistic about the future. Hurts proved all the doubters wrong, including myself. Everyone said that he would never be able to figure out how to pass in this league and that we were going to be going after a QB in the draft. However, Sirianni remained committed to his young quarterback from the University of Oklahoma. “The Kid” has shown extraordinary leadership and has earned every dollar he has coming to him in the very near future. The MVP caliber season cemented his position as franchise QB. He displayed the same flashes of brilliance during the game last night. He did a lot with his legs and was able to extend drives and kept them in the game till the very end. But that isn’t going to matter when you let up 3 touchdowns in the second half.
The Defense has been suspect all year long, and that was against subpar offensive play across the NFC. Jonathan Gannon, the Eagles Defensive Coordinator, established a similar game plan that he used most of the year. Playing off the receivers and allowing them to have small plays to avoid the big ones. The hope being that the D-line would get to Mahomes, but we had none of that. For the second time all year, the Eagles defense was held to zero sacks, and the league MVP essentially had a field day on them in the second half. Fortunately for us, Gannon may be on his way out the door to be a head coach and we can get a fresh face in here to change things up.
Adding a couple of new pieces to this team, and resigning some key players will be essential in the offseason. The likes of Fletcher Cox, and Robert Quinn, I believe will be out the door next season. My hope would be that we resign both James Bradberry, and Gardner-Johnson to ensure another solid secondary for 2023, but it’s highly unlikely. Historically, the Eagles don’t put value into our backfield, but I think that Miles Sanders will be an offseason priority. The same goes for Seumalo and Dillard, with the potential retirement of Jason Kelce. Those signings coupled with that number 10 pick and the number 30 in the draft, we could ensure another run next year. The future is bright for this young team and I don’t believe that this was a fluke. The harder schedule next year will test them early and often, but if we can continue our success the Philadelphia Eagles will be back in the Super Bowl.
