Why Hurts Is In The MVP Conversation

The Philadelphia Eagles are 11-1 13 weeks into the NFL season in large part due to the leap that Jalen Hurts has taken. Even handicappers have taken notice as Hurts is coming in currently with the 2nd best odds (+150) to win the NFLs most prestigious individual award, the MVP coming in behind Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes (+125) with the rest of leagues candidates at +800 or longer.

Why is it that Hurts is in the top 2 for this award? While there are many reasons I’d be remiss if I didn't put it out there that this is a weird year in the league with what were considered sure fire favorites early on like Aaron Rodgers,Josh Allen and Joe Burrow struggling with injury, age, and situations surrounding them. Similar to Carson Wentz’s fabled 2017 season where he finished as the MVP runner up and would have won apart from a knee injury in L.A. There is also the obvious the team only has 1 loss to this point and Hurts has played a large part in the teams success aided by the new number 1 receiver AJ Brown who has accounted for 9 of Hurts’ 20 passing TD’s as well as 950 of his 2940 passing yards the tandem is shaping up to be one of the best QB WR duos in the NFL.

Hurts’ passing game has surely taken a massive step forward and simultaneously his legs continue to impress and produce. To this point Hurts has 609 yards on 132 attempts averaging 4.6 yards and scoring an additional 9 touchdowns. Couple this with his ability to do what every QB should TAKE CARE OF THE BALL with just 3 INT’s on the season. I have long been a fan of Hurts and I think after this season the rest of you will be too. This is a close MVP race and I am interested to see how it ends but i will not forget to enjoy the ride along the way.
