​Nationals Avoid Sweep

The Washington Nationals ended the Phillies four game winning streak, and avoided being swept, as they won on Thursday night, 4-2.

Philadelphia broke the scoreless duel in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Max Kepler hit a one-out double to left center. Then, Alec Bohm hit a line single to right center that scored Kepler, and made it 1-0.

The Nationals, then came back in the top of the 6thinning. C.J. Abrams led off with a double to right, then with one out, first baseman Nathaniel Lowe singled to right, which scored Abrams, and making it a 1-1 game.

Then, catcher Keibert Ruiz hit a ball down the right field line, and Bryce Harper whiffed on the play, and Ruiz went to third on a 3-base error, that scored Lowe, and giving Washington a 2-1 lead. Luis Garcia Jr., then made it 3-1 by serving a single to left field.

Washington got the fourth run in the inning, as with runners on the corners, Dylan Crews was trying to steal second, and get in a rundown, but catcher Rafael Marchan threw the ball into center field, and that scored Garcia. Overall, a disastrous inning.

The Phillies did cut it to 4-2, on an RBI single by Nick Castellanos, but they could not get anymore offense against the relievers from Washington.

​Phillies starter, Taijuan Walker, was dominating for the first five innings, including retiring ten batters in a row, however the sixth inning, was his kryptonite, as overall he went 5 2/3 innings, and allowed four runs, although only one was earned .

​The Phillies will stay home, as the Arizona Diamondbacks come in for a weekend series, and Jesus Luzardo will get the ball on Friday night.
