MLB Lockout Has No Real End in Sight- By: Justin Dorazio
As the everlasting MLB lockout continues, some are left to wonder if we’ll ever see baseball again. We will, maybe. The commissioner of Major League Baseball, Rob Manfred addressed the media today, regarding the lockout. Manfred assured us that “the status of spring training is no change right now”, which in my opinion is a strange thing to say when pitchers and catchers are meant to report on February 15th (5 days) and the MLB owners committee and commissioner are yet to offer a counterproposal to the MLBPA (Players Association).
When asked if he believes the regular-season schedule will start on time on March 31st, Manfred responded with “I’m an optimist, and I believe we will have an agreement in time to play our regular-season schedule.”, Manfred has to be a huge optimist to believe this season isn’t even a little bit in danger of getting delayed.
As it stands now, the owners' committee is expected to make a counteroffer, this Saturday on February 12th. I don’t expect this offer to be anywhere close to what the players are seeking. The owners' committee and Rob Manfred seriously need to wake up and realize the rest of America doesn’t care about 30 billionaires trying to nickel and dime everything they can out of the players. After last season showed record-high ratings for baseball, you would think the commissioner of baseball’s number one concern would be to end this lockout and continue to grow the game of baseball to this new generation.
