Last season brought some uncertainty for Maple Leafs fans. Starting goalie Fredrick Anderson had tons of injury trouble. This opened the door for back up Jack Campbell. Campbell was traded to Toronto towards the end of the 2019/2020 season from the Los Angeles Kings. He was brought over in hopes to not only add some depth to the leafs goaltending rotation but also as insurance in case Anderson opted to not resign with Toronto. When Anderson started falling into constant injury trouble the morale of Leaf’s fans was low as it was believed that Campbell although solid, couldn’t handle the workload of being a starter at an NHL level.

He proved that to be wrong as last season he started in 22 games and posted a .921 save percentage for 2.15 GAA. Campbell got the nod to start in game 1 of the playoffs against Montreal.

The 29-year-old brings more than just goaltending to the team as he quickly became a fan favorite. “Soupy” as his teammates call him brings joy and happiness to the room which is a huge boost for team morale. Something that the leafs have had issues with for a while. Fans hope that Campbell and the Leafs can make the playoffs and win their first series since 2003/2004 when they beat the Ottawa Senators.
