Why Sports Are More Than “Just” A Game

After a team loses a game, you always have those few people say it’s “just a game”. To some, it’s more than”just” a game. Sports are one of the most popular forms of entertainment in America. I’ve come up with some of the biggest reasons and decided to break them all down

City Representation

Athletes represent the city they play in. There’s a sense of pride from the people of that city when a player does something notable or if the team has a special season.

Charity

Because the leagues make a lot of money, they have the opportunity to do amazing charity work. They work with Make A Wish and a lot of other charitable organizations to give people a really cool experience. Imagine being a kid and getting to hang out with your favorite player all day. It leaves such an impression that can truly be life changing. It could make the kid want to work in sports.

Winning

When your teams wins the championship, your city has a parade for the team. Getting to experience that as a kid is such a cool experience. Players walk along the street to high five fans, there’s a bunch of cheering, and it’s an overall celebration. I was 10 when the Phillies won the World Series and 19 when the Eagles won the Super Bowl. I went to both parades with my family and the pure joy everyone had during the parade is something unparalleled. Watching your favorite team be the best team in that sport at such a young age.

Overall, sports bring people together. We love our teams and the players on those teams. They represent something more than the game they play.
