Flyers are falling behind by: Jesse Bell
Tuesday, March 11, 2025, the Philadelphia Flyers faced off against the Ottawa Senators at the Wells Fargo Center, looking to improve their standing in the league. However, despite a strong effort, the Flyers fell short, with a final score of 5-2 in favor of the Senators. This marked the second of three contests between the two teams this season, leaving the Flyers with a split record of 1-1 in their season series against Ottawa.
The game began with a slow pace, as both teams battled for control. The Senators struck first, with Brady Tkachuk finding the back of the net in the opening period. The Flyers responded in the second period, scoring two goals, but it wasn't enough to overcome Ottawa's offensive surge. The Senators extended their lead with four goals over the course of the game, showcasing their offensive depth.
Jamie Drysdale shone for the Flyers, scoring his fifth goal of the season during the second period, marking his second consecutive game with a goal. Drysdale’s performance has been noteworthy, as he ranks second among Flyers defensemen in goals and third in total points with 16. Travis Konecny assisted on Drysdale's goal, bringing his season total to 43 assists. Konecny has been on a roll against the Senators, maintaining a six-game point streak with two goals and six assists. He leads the Flyers in both assists and overall points with 65.
Another highlight for the Flyers was Rodrigo Abols, who scored his second NHL goal in the same game. Cam York contributed with a primary assist on Abols’ goal, marking his tenth assist of the season. York has also been in fine form, boasting a five-game point streak against the Senators with three goals and three assists during that stretch. Jakub Pelletier also assisted on Abols’ goal, marking his second assist since joining the Flyers via trade.
In goal, Ivan Fedotov took the loss for the Flyers, stopping 19 of 23 shots, while Senators' goaltender Anton Forsberg secured the win with 20 saves on 22 shots. The Flyers’ Matvei Michkov recorded a career-high 21:57 of ice time, further showcasing the young talent's development.
Despite the defeat, there were positives for the Flyers to take away from the game. The team displayed determination and resilience, with several players stepping up to contribute offensively. As they prepare for their next match, the Flyers will look to build on these performances and find ways to tighten their defense to secure more wins in the coming games.
