Eric Allen Named Finalist for Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025 by: Chris Lahiff
Former Eagles cornerback Eric Allen, who has been named one of the 15 finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2025. This marks a significant milestone in Allen's candidacy, as it is the first time he has reached this stage in the voting process.
During his seven seasons with the Eagles, Allen was a key player on the renowned Gang Green defense, earning five Pro Bowl selections and a first-team All-Pro honor in 1989. That season, he finished second in the NFL with eight interceptions, showcasing his exceptional skills as a shutdown cornerback. Over his 14-year NFL career, which also included stints with the New Orleans Saints and the Oakland Raiders, Allen recorded a total of 54 interceptions (eight of which he returned for touchdowns), tying him for 21st in NFL history.
Allen led his respective teams in interceptions seven different times — four with the Eagles and three with the Raiders.
As he enters his 19th year of eligibility, this is a pivotal moment for Allen, especially with only one year left before his candidacy would shift to the Seniors Committee pool. Other notable finalists this year include DE Jared Allen, OT Willie Anderson, and former Ravens stars Terrell Suggs and Marshal Yanda, among others.
I believe this recognition is long overdue for one of the NFL's most underappreciated defensive backs. Let’s hope this is the year he finally receives the honor he truly deserves.
