AHL Coachella Valley Brings Home First Win

New Kids on the Block in the AHL- Coachella Valley Firebirds, brought home their first game win for the franchise against the Calgary Wranglers on Sunday Afternoon with a score of 6-5. Andrew Poturalski, Kole Lind scored twice, Michal Kempny, Max McCormick, and Jesper Froden. Joey Daccord stopped 25 shots during the very first game for Coachella Valley. Coachella Valley Defenseman Ryker Evans passed the puck to Kole Lind to help him gain the first goal ever for Coachella Valley, and it was also the only goal made during the first period.

Going into the 2nd period, Coachella was on a powerplay, and Alternate Captain Andrew Poturalski scored. Along comes Calgary 33 seconds later to make the score 2-1. Coachella’s Michal Kempny took a shot past Calgary’s Dustin Wolf to make the score 3-1. Max McCormick and Jesper Froden also added to the goal bin and put Coachella in the lead 5-1. Calgary did net two goals during the end of the 2nd period to make the score 5-3

In the 3rd period, Kole Lind was on a semi-breakaway and netted a goal past Oskar Dansk, who went in place for Dustin Wolf, and gave Coachella a 6-3 lead. We all know when it comes to hockey, 6 minutes left in a game, is make or break for a team. Calgary came in and made 2 more goals to make the score 6-5. Calgary did pull Danski but Coachella held on to the win for the 6-5 victory and brought home the first ever win for the brand new franchise.

The two teams will rematch tonight at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Puck drop is scheduled for 6pm Pacific.
