Philly Comeback- By: Jennifer Allen

I had very mixed emotions going into today’s game. I’ll admit, I thought there was a strong possibility that the winless Lions would dominate the struggling Eagles, get the win and that would be the nail in the coffin for Sirianni and Co.

After using gardening analogies to excuse his teams subpar performance so far this season, talking about watering buds, laying fertilizer or whatever nonsense he was spouting off about , this guy made me cringe . I was done. I wanted him gone . Yesterday . I wanted him to take Gannon with him.

Then , today happened .

This was not the Eagles team we have seen for the last 7 weeks . This team was running the ball . They were mixing it up on offense. The RPO’s were minimal, and we saw just how strong our run game really is. With the addition of Jordan Howard and Boston Scott, the Eagles were dominate with the run, putting up 200 yards on the ground. Not by the end of the game . By the end of the 3rd quarter. That’s 27 more than the season high of 173 which came in week one against Atlanta.

I am sure Miles Sanders is somewhere , clutching his pearls , wondering why the run game was so strongly relied on the week he goes on IR. I’m asking myself the same question, but I’ll take it.

The defense today was exciting . We saw blitzes. We saw sacks . They were aggressive and Gannon had a plan that actually utilized our talent the right way. 5 sacks. Two of those courtesy of Josh Sweat who had 1.5 through 7 games. Big Play Slay recovered a fumble, ran 33 yards and trotted into his former teams end zone. These guys were on point, played cohesively, and looked like they were having fun doing it.

This shows me that we have a coaching staff that can put together a game plan that is successful, and players that can execute .

I have to point out of course that this magical unicorn game was against the winless Lions. Sure, it was, but we learned something today. This team has talent. The coaches actually may know how to coach and call plays that aren’t boring, predictable and vanilla.

The big question is can the Eagles do this against actual contending teams? That remains to be seen, but after this game, I have to say, today was a good day.
