Penn State Womens Hockey faced Syracuse Friday and Saturday. Both days were hard fought battles with Penn State winning and losing a game. Let’s dive into both games.

Friday

Penn State took advantage of Syracuse’s defensive struggle during Overtime. Natalie Heising scored during a breakaway and won the game 1-0. Josie Bothun, Penn State Womens goaltender, had 32 saves and earned her 6th career shutout, and 7th win of the season. Penn State had chances to score during the first and outshot Syracuse 19 to 6. The scoreless game continued throughout the 2nd period. Syracuse had an opportunity during a power play but Penn State defense and goaltending kept them off the scoreboard and sent both teams to overtime. During OT, Bothun made a save that ultimately led to Penn State winning the game with Heising making the OT goal.

Saturday

Saturday turned to be a different story for Penn State. Penn State scored the first goal of the game by Carrie Byrnes. Syracuse came back a minute later to tie the game 1-1. During the 2nd, Syracuse tallied up 3 goals and towards the end of the period, Syracuse was 5-1. Mallory Uihlein scored a goal from the right to put PSU 5-2. With 2:46 remaining on the clock, Bedier tallied her 2nd goal of the season. There wasn’t enough time for PSU to have a comeback and Syracuse netted another goal and made the final score 6-3.

Penn State Womens Hockey is 7-5-2 for the season currently. The ladies head to Washington, D.C. for D1 in next Friday and Saturday, Nov. 26-27. PSU will play Minnesota Duluth on Friday and Ohio State Saturday.
