Drafted 1st overall in 2004, 12 time all-star, 3x Hart trophy winner, 9x Richard winner, Conn Smythe winner, Art Ross winner, Calder trophy winner, Stanley Cup winner Alexander Ovechkin has achieved and great amount in his NHL career. There is one more thing that’s driving him, and its to break a record that many thought would never be broken.

Just recently, he surpassed Brett Hull for 4th all time in goals with 742. He is only 24 goals behind Jaromir Jagr for 3rd all time, and at the pace he’s on he’s going to pass that this season. He is off to the best season of his career at age 36 with 12 goals and 14 assists in 15 games this season. The magic number to tie the record is 152 goals, that record is held by “The Great One”, Wayne Gretzky, with 894 goals in his NHL career.

Nobody, and I mean nobody, loves to score goals more than Alex Ovechkin. He celebrates every goal as if it is his first, and who doesn’t enjoy seeing that kind of excitement and love for the game. Anyone who has watched Ovechkin play over the course of his career can see the passion he plays with. He is a tank out on the ice, strong on the puck and a shot release so hard and so fast goaltenders barely have time to react. In my opinion, he will surpass Jagr this season and Gordie Howe, who’s second all time with 802 goals, next season. When or if he will break Gretzky’s record is unclear, but I do know one thing, it’s going to be one hell of a ride to the end.
