WBS Penguins vs Springfield Thunderbirds 2026 Calder Cup Playoffs: Atlantic Division Finals Game 2
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins are now tied 1-1 dropping Game 2 in the Atlantic Division Finals after a third period surge by the Springfield Thunderbirds.
At 8:33 of the first period, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton received the first power play of the game. Bill Zonnon went on to score his second goal in as many games and recorded the first power-play goal of his AHL career.
Tristan Broz would score his first of the post season at 0:16, extending the Penguins lead by 2. Avery Hayes joins the scoresheet at 18:16 in the second period with his second of the postseason.
Trailing by three, Springfield starts the third period off with Hugh McGing scoring a short-handed goal at 0:55. Dillon Dube would bring the Thunderbirds within 1 at 16:36, a little under two minutes later Dube tied the game at 3.
Overtime would last 13 minutes and 44 seconds when Akil Thomas scores the game-winning goal for Springfield. After the game two OT win, Springfield remains undefeated in extra time this postseason.
In the loss Sergei Murashov stopped 41 of 45 shots faced. Georgii Romanov improves to 6-2 and stopped 39 of 42 shots faced.
The series will now head to Springfield for Game 3 on Tuesday, May 19 with a 7:05 puck drop.
